An Important Announcement regarding DASHERIE

Calligraphy Wedding Details in DASHERIE

Issue 4 has shipped and begun to hit mailboxes this week. It’s always very exciting for me after months of planning, editing, and designing for others to see the issue. This issue in particular was very difficult to pull together but the final result was worth every minute.

Since readers have started to receive the issue, I thought it best to communicate all at once, that this will be the last issue of DASHERIE for a while. When I began this adventure, I was not homeschooling and I felt it was the perfect time to do what I had always dreamed of doing. However, things quickly changed and I found my family obligations piling up like never before.

Creating DASHERIE has been the single most rewarding professional endeavor I have done yet. It is a dream come true. And while I have to now change gears and let that dream go for a while, I have no regrets.

I would like to thank each and every one of you for your incredible support. I feel your love and it has made all the difference.

Truly,
Erica

P.S. There are still a small amount of Issues 1,2, & 3 remaining but they are selling quickly and are almost sold out. Issue 4 is now shipping. Don’t miss this amazing issue!

All Dressed in White…

white ink calligraphy in Dasherie Magazine

The Winter issue of Dasherie features invitations using black & white as well as white ink on black or colored envelopes. White ink calligraphy on colored wedding invitations is a very popular trend these days. Whether a traditional or more modern look is desired, this combination can add style and elegance to any occasion, but especially weddings.

There is no doubt the invitations set the tone for the event to come. From whimsical to classic, the style of calligraphy you choose and the color of the envelope and invitation make a lasting impression. These envelopes (and matching invitation stock) from cards & pockets are high quality and take calligraphy well, two things you definitely want to look for when doing hand lettered calligraphy envelopes.

If you are hiring a calligrapher to address and/or design your invitations, make sure they purchase a few of the envelopes you are interested in before making the big purchase to have them test it out and make sure the envelope 1. can handle a calligraphy nib and 2. is dark enough for white calligraphy to be visible.

Also, be sure to ask if they have experience using white ink or gouache as it is a little different than using traditional calligraphy ink. Keep in mind, too, that white ink fades faster than black ink. This may not be important to you since it is for the envelopes, but is something to be aware of.

Hand lettered calligraphy for your wedding invitations will delight both you and your guests and is one of those details that will always be remembered.

A Note About Shipping

There have been some questions about why shipping takes so long. Large scale magazines are shipped via a distributor. Once you have a subscription, they come on a regular basis at about the same time. However, the initial issue typically takes 4-6 weeks to go through the process and arrive in your mailbox.

Dasherie is an independent magazine and not currently available in stores. Our storage and fulfillment is done by our printing company. It is a very laborious process to cue the addresses, retrieve the magazine from storage, prepare it for shipment, and then ship. It is not possible for this to be done on a daily basis. It is ideal to be done in large batches. Since we are a new publication, our orders are streaming in on a daily basis, not all at once.

This means some orders will take a bit longer as they wait for the batch to be ready for shipment. Once shipped, all international orders go first class mail. Domestic orders, must meet a criteria to be shipped standard flat rate. If this criteria is met, it will take approximately 8 – 10 business days from shipping date (not order date) to arrive.

So as not to disappoint any of our readers, Dasherie upped the shipping for domestic on the most recent batch to first class mail. This means all orders placed prior to August 18th will arrive to your home faster (shipped Wed, Aug 20th). As more orders come in, we will do our best to get Dasherie in your hands as quickly as possible. But please allow 4-6 weeks from time of order for it to be delivered. Hopefully, it will be quicker than this but that cannot be guaranteed. We hope you will find it well worth the wait! 🙂

In the future, pre-ordering is the best way to ensure you will be in the first group to receive your copy. Hopefully, with our success, we will offer subscriptions so Dasherie can arrive in a routine, timely fashion.

Thank you for your understanding and patience, and thank you for your fabulous support! 🙂

I sure hope there are many more issues! – LM

Order your copy of the debut issue … filled with gorgeous calligraphy!– JH

I am working my way through it, front to back, and it’s really wonderful!!  Congratulations! – JT

Your artwork, lettering, and creative genius is out of this world, and Dasherie is waaaaay more than I ever expected.  Dasherie is so well thought out and put together, and every page is filled with inspiration. I love the smell and feel of the pages, I love the colour and the layout of the articles, and I love the many, many examples of lettering and lettering artists out there…I congratulate you on this successful first publication and warmly wish hundreds and hundreds more !! – PM

So thrilled at all the positive feedback about Dasherie’s premier issue. Since this is our first issue, it is also helpful to have constructive feedback as well. There have been a few comments regarding the gray text used for the articles. The gray was a design choice to complement the soft feel of the overall design. Under the bright lights of the pre-press proofing area and without the backsides of the pages printed, the color worked quite well. Unfortunately, some readers report it makes for difficult reading. We appreciate this feedback and will be sure future issues will use a darker color.

Thankfully, the gray does enhance all the eye candy – that is the beautiful photographs of calligraphy! These beautiful birth announcements feature the calligraphy of Brenna Berger (l) and Theresa D. Varela (r).

Dasherie Shipping Status & Our Next Issue

DASHERIE | the Black & White issue

Shipping Status

A shipping status update to know when to expect your copy of Dasherie is below. The folks who pre-ordered Dasherie in other countries have already started to receive their copies! But hey wait – why are they receiving it across the pond and we haven’t started receiving it here in the US yet?! Read on…

For all pre-orders made up to and including July 30, 2014:

Countries outside the US were shipped first class international mail on Monday, 8/4/14. We have received several reports from readers in Great Britain that they received their magazine yesterday (8/12/14).

Domestic (US) readers were shipped standard post flat rate which takes approximately 2-8 business days. I had hoped that would mean Dasherie would begin arriving in states close to Florida before the end of last week but unfortunately, we are still anxiously awaiting. The rest is up to the US Post Office.

For those who ordered after 7/30/14, please allow 4-6 weeks from date of purchase for arrival both domestic and international.

Now that we have gone through the entire publishing, printing, shipping process, the next issue should run much smoother with very clear timelines.

There has been a little change in the timing and frequency for the next issues. Dasherie will be semiannual for this year and next and will hopefully go to quarterly for 2016. Our next issue, Winter 2014, is slated for an early November completion.
